Edge to Edge

Edge to Edge quilting is a technique where a single pattern is used continuously across in rows along the quilt top. The stitching runs from one edge of the quilt to the other, ignoring any changes in quilt blocks or borders. This technique can be done by hand or by computerized robotics. Edge to edge designs using computerization is more cost and time effective while also giving nice texture and visual appeal to a quilt top.

Free motion

Free motion quilting involves a quilter moving the machine head of the longarm manually around the project, creating patterns and shapes by hand or with the use of rulers. This is more of an artistic style of quilting and is more time consuming. This technique allows for many different designs to be placed on the same quilt in specific areas to highlight design features on the quilt top, to create texture and design in open areas, and to add visual depth.
